Life Update: I Got Married and Moved to Hong Kong
Did you know that many people find true joy not in their achievements but in their commitments? As I reflect on my recent life changes, I’m excited to share my journey of marriage and relocation to Hong Kong!
Life Update
Life has taken some exciting turns for me recently. The biggest news? I got married! In August 2024, I tied the knot with Izzy, a wonderful woman I met during our time at medical school at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. We connected over our shared passion for YouTube, and it’s been a beautiful journey ever since. Izzy's channel has exploded in popularity, and we’re even setting up a YouTube studio in our new home.
After our wedding, we made the decision to move to Hong Kong. The weather in London can be quite dreary for much of the year, and Izzy was eager for a change. We explored various options, including cities in the US, but ultimately decided that Hong Kong offered a unique blend of culture, greenery, and international connectivity that appealed to us both.
Business Update
On the business front, things are progressing well. We continue to create a variety of free content, which helps convert a portion of our audience into paying customers. This cycle allows us to fund our free offerings, creating an infinite loop of value. If I had all the money in the world, I’d still choose to create content and share my journey online.
Recently, we launched a new app called VoicePal, which has already attracted around 2,500 paying users. This app allows me to record my thoughts while walking, making content creation more enjoyable and efficient. It’s a game-changer for my workflow!
However, I’ve also been reflecting on the structure of my business. I initially aimed to create multiple brands and products, thinking it would make my business more scalable and sellable. But I realized that this approach complicated things unnecessarily. Instead, I’ve decided to simplify and focus on my personal brand, which has always been the core of my success.
Reflections
As I navigate these life changes, I’ve been pondering the concept of fulfillment. There’s a book I read called The Second Mountain by David Brooks, which discusses the difference between the first mountain of success and the second mountain of commitment. Many of my friends who have achieved success in their careers often find that true joy comes from deeper connections and commitments, whether in relationships, community, or personal growth.
I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of routine and stability. After years of traveling and living a somewhat chaotic lifestyle, I find joy in the simplicity of daily life. I enjoy playing squash with friends, going for morning walks, and having a consistent workspace for my YouTube videos.
Key Takeaway: Embrace the stability and routine in your life; it can lead to unexpected joy and fulfillment.
As I settle into married life and our new home in Hong Kong, I’m eager to hear from others who have experienced similar transitions. If you’re married, what advice would you give to someone just starting this journey? Let’s share our wisdom and support each other in this beautiful adventure called life!
